Shellac flakes Lemon nr.1

Handmade schellac flakes. Wax content of max 5,5 %.
Schellac is produced from a small bobbin-shaped purple louse called Lucifer lacca where the female seeks out slender shoots and bores through them with its proboscis and extracts the nutrients. When it starts this process, schellac is formed from the residual products released by the louse. In the event of bad weather or, for example, during long periods of frost, the larvae may die whilst looking for new host trees and the production of schellac consequently decreases. This results in the availability of the raw material to vary somewhat and as a consequence prices can fluctuate sharply. Schellac is a pure natural product and not poisonous. Shellac is only soluble in alcohol and is often used to insulate knots, moisture damage and soot prior to painting. It is also used for a variety of other purposes, such as within the protection of fruit, confectionery, chocolate and pharmaceuticals. For insulation purposes in electronics. For the surface treatment of furniture and for added gloss within cosmetics. Schellac is also used to add stiffness to textiles, leather and hats. Only the imagination limits the possibilities for its use.
Ever since 2009 we have been directly importing schellac of high quality from Tolaram in India. The company has extensive experience and is now into third generation ownership. Should you have any questions concerning the product then mail them to us and we will contact the manufacturer directly.
